Rescue Mission

She has lost contact with one of her cells and unlike other times in the past, she now has the option of investigating to see what has happened to them. Only problem is, she doesn't have a ship. In the past, she'd just commandeer one but there are too many missions going on at present, and she also wishes to keep this one quiet, since this team was deep in the Imperial bureaucracy. 

Looking at flight plans however, she spots a familiar name that happens to be going near the system she needs. Maybe she can get a ride, assuming his mission isn't sensitive as well.

So now she's wandering the hanger bay, looking for Cassian Andor.

Cassian's at the moment partly in his U-wing engine as they flew through a storm that didn't do full on damage but something and he wants it sorted before flying out again.

"It is just as I informed you," Kay says, stepping out of the ship and walking around to where Cassian is working. "The probability of sustaining structural and engine damage while flying through a storm is significant. Not to mention you dinged my side of the cockpit."

The appearance of an Imperial droid gives her pause, but then she remembers the rumors and continues to approach; careful to scuff a boot to make sure she's heard. And since she doesn't know if she can trust the droids reprogramming, she keeps her hands away from her belt and it's weapons.

"Captain Andor? Might I have a moment of your time?"

He recognizes her voice and comes out of the engine and says first to Kay, before turning to her and standing more to attention, "Through the storm was our only safe way out. Ahsoka."

Kay turns at Cassian's name being called out, head lifting as the woman approaches, but his shoulders remain in their usual slouched position.

"I would give you the probability of us escaping by going around the storm, but that would not fix the ding on my panel now."

Chances are, he'll inform Cassian about it later anyways.

The corners of Ahsoka's lips pull up slightly, at the droids single mindedness, and she offers a nod of greeting towards it before turning to look up to Cassian. She's left her armor behind and is now dressed more like a mechanic; worn brown pants, a dark sleeveless top, boots, and a slim blaster strapped to her thigh, as well as tools on her belt. Her sabers are at the small of her back, stacked and still in easy reach.

"The logs suggest you might be passing near the Jelucan system. I was hoping I might get a ride, if it isn't out of your way or would interfere with any mission you might have?"

"It won't and I'll fix your panel. Kay this is Ahsoka,"

Jelucan is a place where Cassian has an informant that he's due to check in on and possibly liberate some supplies.

"Are you a mechanic?" Kay asks after taking in her appearance, then turns to Cassian. "Cassian, maybe she should take a look at our engine. And fix my panel."

Ahsoka smiles and laughs a little.

"I have worked as a mechanic from time to time, but I'm afraid today this is more a cover. I work with Intelligence, like Cassian. I would be happy to lead a hand if you'd like."

"Thank you, I wouldn't mind a second look. Kay, Ahsoka is also known as Fulcrum. Show us where the panel's dented enough that it bothers you,"

Working provides its own kind of privacy as the hangar is always busy and noisy.

"It is a very convincing cover," he informs her.

Relieved that the panel is going to be given the proper attention it deserves, Kay walks around the U-wing to point out the small ding he spotted.

"Thank you. It is one that has served very well in the past." She is growing to trust the droid's programming, though she still keeps an eye on him as she waits for Kay to show them the damage.

Cassian notes how Ahsoka watches Kay, he's seen that uncertainty before and sees the dent,

"Mechanics can go everywhere. We can fix that without too much trouble."

"Perhaps I should wear a mechanic disguise," Kay says with a thoughtful tone. "Then, I could go on all your missions, Cassian."

She looks up and gives Kay a critical eye, turning more friendly than suspicious.

"It's possible, but I think your model is too new and wouldn't blend in with other mechanic droids. Sorry."

"We could research configurations which could allow you to pass as something aside from an Imperial security droid. I'm sure your base chassis was reused for other purposes."

"You could be a protocol droid but I don't think you'd like being an astromech. Not as many options."

Cassian says and hoists himself up to start working on the dent.

Kay considers their words and suggestions carefully, before deciding, "Perhaps I can wear a hat. Or a helmet."

He stands by to supervise Cassian in order to make sure the dent is repaired correctly.

"Why are you seeking transportation to the Jelucan system?" he asks Ahsoka after a few moments of watching Cassian work.

Ahsoka hops up easily to join Cassian and be available if he wants any help. She does spare a quirk of a smile for Kay's suggestion and decides she likes the droid, though she is still cautious in trusting him fully.

At his question. she looks over her shoulder to answer. "I have some people there I've lost contact with. I'm going to see if they need help and if I can get them out if needed."

"If we found the right one. We're good at extractions."

And hopefully her contacts aren't in too much trouble.

"We have completed one recently where we saved many children," Kay says to back up Cassian's claim.

"They were my friends."

Any misgivings Ahsoka may have been holding onto just disappeared. Any being that can earn the trust of children, and count them as friends, is a being to be trusted in her mind.

"That is very generous of you," she allows for them both, but then demurs, "but I didn't mean to volunteer you. I would appreciate the help, but I don't want to disrupt your own plans. I had meant to take care of this matter myself and only needed a ride."

Still, plans can be altered. That's one of the first lessons her master taught her.

Cassian smiles at Kay as he gets the dent fully out.

"That was a good mission. No, I don't think it should be. We're going to check on some intel and maybe get some."

"Cassian is excellent at multi-tasking," Kay says. "Especially when I am around."

[jedi_interrupted]

"Well, I appreciate the help," she says with an open smile. "And please feel free to use my skills during our trip. I do actually know how to be a mechanic and have lived off those skills before."

Pausing a moment in thought, she asks cautiously, "Is this a type of mission you might be interested in at other times as well? I'm trying to put together teams for helping our cells when they need it, not direct action against the Empire, but I'm hoping if we can get to our cells before the Empire does, we can save a lot more people."

"Yes, I think we would be but any mission from General Draven will have to take precedence. Hopefully we won't need them too much,"

He pats the ship, that's not dented. Having the chance to do more rescue missions would be good, they're always hopeful.

Kay moves in to inspect the panel, going over the area thoroughly before becoming satisfied with the dent repair.

"You are only allowed to recruit Cassian those times when he has been allowed to rest and eat," he informs Ahsoka. "And when he has not injured himself, which happens quite often."

Ahsoka gives Kay a warm smile.

"I promise to only provide the opportunity. If you both agree you are available, then you accept. If not, I find someone else. I am hoping I will find enough volunteers that we won't be stretched thin and our normal business can continue unhampered."

She pauses, turns a sly grin Cassian's way before turning to face Kay again. "Unless you'd like me to address such inquires through you first, Kay?"

Cassian climbs down off the ship with a smile. He's curious what Kay will think of the offer.

"That seems like it should work. Do you have everything you need for this mission?"

Kay's head lifts a bit in surprise at the offer, and then he nods once.

"Yes, that would be for the best. Cassian is terrible at rating his own well being and availability."

[jedi_interrupted]

"We'll have to take care of comm codes later then. I'll introduce you to T4, my droid assistant as well."

Turning back to Cassian, she answers his question. "At this point, I don't know. The cell has been out of connect for a few days now and hasn't responded to any hails. For now, I just want to see if they're still there and if so, what's been keeping them from contact. I'd love it if it's just faulty equipment."

Which is entirely possible, given the state of the Rebellion.

He gives Kay a look as he's not that bad.

"I hope so too. Equipment can be fixed, people are always harder to find."

Kay doesn't always get along with other droids (or others in general, besides Cassian), but he agrees to at least meet Ahsoka's droid since she's being so reasonable about other things.

"Very well."

[jedi_interrupted]

Ahsoka nods to Cassian. "That's my hope, so I've got some new equipment to bring along. "

She leaves unsaid the chance the Empire got to them.

Turning to look up to K2 again, she replies, "T4 isn't that bad. He's not like other protocol droids and has been upgraded to run crypto-algorithms. He tends to do a lot of calculating rather than talk."

"We'll help you with loading as we know the safest places to secure everything. There's a decent amount of space on a U-wing. I'm curious about these crypto-algorithms."

He's curious to see how the two droids interact and for the time on this trip to have a chance to talk safely with Ahsoka.

"Do you listen to T4?" Kay asks. "Cassian doesn't listen to my probability calculations nearly enough."

Or rather, Cassian listens without changing his courses of action, even when Kay lets the man know there's a good chance for dying.

"When T4 speaks of matters she knows well, yes. I do listen to her with other matters, but my choices are my own." She says this with a smile, but there is a clear point there if you look for it.

"I listen but there's not always a way to use them. I try to find them when I can."

Its just that there aren't always a lot of good options in their work.

Kay considers Ahsoka's words for a long moment, then decides, "That is very pragmatic of you."

His tone of delivery doesn't really give away whether he thinks this is a good thing or a bad thing.
